This grant is available to assist people aged 66 years or older, living in poor housing conditions, to carry out essential repairs or improvements so that they can continue to live in their own home, such as roof repairs, electrical re-wiring, provision of central heating where none exists or it is damaged beyond economic repair.

However, in cases of genuine

hardship the local authority may assist people under age 66.

- Mobility Aids Grant.

The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme provides grants for works designed to address mobility problems in the home, such as the purchase and installation of grab-rails, a level access shower, access ramps or a stair-lift.

The scheme is primarily for older people, people with a disability or reduced mobility e.g., difficulty getting in and out of their existing bath or shower tray. Up to 95% of grant funding is available through your Local Authority.

- Housing Grant For Disabled People.

The Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability are available to assist older people and people with a disability, living in a privately-owned property, to carry out works that are reasonably necessary to make the house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability or a family member.

 

Examples of works covered by this grant are:

  • A ramp or other ways to access your home.

​​

  • Grab rails.

​​

  • Bathroom facilities like an accessible shower or downstairs toilet / wetroom.

​​

  • Stairlifts.

​​

  • Space for wheelchair access.

​

  • An extension (typically for a bedroom and/or level access shower room).

​

Conversion of garage to ground floor bedroom / wetroom.

Up to 95% of grant funding is available through your Local Authority.
